Ross Muir is a Scottish self-taught artist who was catapulted into fame after his painting "Square Gogh" went viral in late

The painting Square Gogh is a recreation of one of Vincent van Gogh's self-portraits. The name is a pun on the slang term "square go"; a call to a physical fight. Muir paints Gogh wearing in an adidas tracksuit top in front of a monochrome backdrop.

Muire began abusing drugs around the age of His father supported him through his addiction. Muir was gifted a small set of paints and began to experiment, "I was painting like a child, like a 5-year-old".

Muir framed one of his first prints to give to his father, but found his father dead. Muir described this experience as "brutal" and "horrible". The death caused a setback in Muir's wellbeing and career, but is now doing well and continues to create art in order to make his father proud.

In late , Muir received a message from a friend telling him his painting Square Gogh had gone viral - with 10' likes on multiple social media wbsites.

On the topic of recreating works of artists, Muir said "You end up in the mind of the other artist that you're replicating, and that's a beautiful thing."

Muir continues to paint for his new, wider audience and fans. One of his works following the Square Gogh virality was a recreation of a vintage Vogue poster. He puts Scottish twists on his work; the Vogue recreation is set to the backdrop of Loch Lomond, where Muir is from. He describes himself as an underdog, and says art "is what I'm all about".
